CVS in Cincinnati area says no more generic subutex due to some “lawsuit”. Yes it is true, they took the generic back off the market. How many addicts will this force back to illegal drug trade?

Comment on Open Question: Breastfeeding and subutex? by E

here's the background, and i hope this benefits other women and their babes.

(have, for now finished expressing.......)

Pre-pregnacy, i was all over the place with methadone scripts ranging from 20mls to 120mls. just before i had a blunder with contraception (don't trust the cap 100%, that's all i can say girls!) i was about 4 weeks off of ALL street drugs and booze and stable on 60mls methadone.

when morning sickness crept up behind me and battered me morning noon and night, keeping methadone down was inconcievable, so did a 100yard dash to 30mls and at the advice of CEDAS titrated (rather shakilly) on to SUBUTEX.

At first i was on 18mgs sub, and during the safer 2nd trimester detoxed down 2mgs per week to 6mgs, but this was too low for pain relief, so it stablalised at 8mgs for the rest of the pregnancy, going up to 12mgs 3days before the planned C-Section.

my daughter was born with a very healthy APGAR score of 9 out of 10.

After the drug screens, and health screens came back negative, day 3 i could breast feed my baby. The head doc of the NICU ward said and other doc's have repeated his advice ( also check out National Ins of health and Clinical Excellence aka NICE from the UK/NHS as this gives great up to date info on this topic). 12mgs has no ill affects on babies nor messes up milk supplies. Above this, then don't!

my lovely baba has sadly shown signs of NAS. this was on day 3. Since breast feeding, she has shown good signs of improvement and i feel horrible for not being stronger and stopping in the 2nd trimester 100%, but the need for stability and safety was paramount.

really hopes this helps anyone going through the same thing.

That is so unfair, I would find a different doctor. I am 6 months pregnant and take 12 mg of Subutex a day. My Subutex doctor tells me that no opiate is really THAT BAD during pregnancy. He assures me that there are people out there taking Oxy and other things and having healthy babies. He told me not to go down on my dose or stop as this could have caused a miscarriage and now pre-term labor. I think it would be very bad for you to stop taking your medicine.
