Open Question: BIG MESS!!!! & How could my druggy husband pass his drug test?
October 12, 2009 By Leave a Comment
I am going through some VERY hard times right now. I have been married for 15 years to this man & since the past 4 years he started using & abusing drugs. (Lortabs, oxycontin, oxycodone, percecets, morphene suckers and marijuana & whetever else he could get his hands on. LONG story short, his abuse has destroyed our family. I have 2 children, one is 19 yrs old from former relationship, (I got married to him when she was only 3yrs). We also have a daughter together who is now 3 years old.
He had gotten so out of control he threatened to hit my 19 yr old & I stepped in between to protect her & he threatened to knock us both in the floor, but didn't. I ended up leaving with my 2 girls hoping things would calm down in a day or two. I called him to try to see what frame of mind he was in to see if it was safe to return home, he only sounded as MAD as ever!!! He says it's because I took our 3 yr old girl. (I didn't want to, but I felt I had to for everyone's safety). Well, he actually made threats against me & my 19 yr olds life on about 4 different phone calls.....(he didn't come right out & say he would "kill us", but it certainly was implied! Such as saying things like ..."I will use all my money, power & resorces to get you & Joshualyn (my 19 yr old daughter) out of the way!!!" because he said that "NO ONE will ever keep him away from his daughter!" (our 3 yr old). another time he said "because I have done this unpardonable sin (of taking our 3 yr old away) that I am driving my own nails in my coffin!" The man isn't even in his right mind anymore! anyway, that was just a couple phone conversations with him. Well of course I have a protection order now & I filed for a divorce about 2 weeks ago. (this all happened about 1 month ago now). Ok, now we have our lawyers & I demand hair follical drug testing because I KNOW with my own eyes for a FACT he did drugs! But lo & behold HIS HAIR & URINE test came back CLEAN!!!! How can this be??? Does anyone know HOW someone can pass a test like that when you are indeed doing drugs? Oh yes, I need to say that this past June (after years of pleading) he did go to a detox place, which he did just now complete, BUT he was Still smoking pot up till the day I left 1 month ago. & was also abusing the narcotic "Subutex" they gave him to get off ALL the other junk! SO why didn't ANYTHING show up???? Please help, I don't know how he could have done this! ???

Resolved Question: “Recovering” from vicodin but really have a legit back problem..?
October 12, 2009 By Leave a Comment
I guess I should give a back story first..
I was on pain meds (roboxin, darvocet then vicodin) on and off for about 10 years (im 23) for an injury I got from some bullies in 7th grade.. My mother passed away in 2007 and my psychical pain was increased by emotional pain and suddenly I was taking up to 16 vicodin a day. To be honest I wasn't taking it for the feeling. The pain was so intense that I kept taking more and more.. I come from a family of addicts so as soon as I started to feel it was a problem, I sought help. Last year (10/17/08) I started on Suboxone, had a bad reaction then a month later got on Subutex, 8mg a day. Its a year later and im still on this medication but down to 4mg a day.
Lately the pain in my back has been so severe that I can barley function. The subtex barley helps and its EXTREMELY expensive to take it JUST for pain. My doctor is convinced that this pain is all in my head and I should just continue on my subutex program since it helps my pain. Its $60 every two weeks and $9.00 per pill. I get 8 pills every 2 weeks.. That's $1440 for visits and $1800 for pills a YEAR! I have insurance but in the beginning I was instructed not to use it so they wouldn't find out i was "abusing the medication I had a prescription for" It slipped once and the pharmacist ran my insurance about 10 months ago..
So here are my questions:
1: Is there a way that I could get off this stuff and be put on a drug considered addictive if I use it properly and am monitored? The only reason I started this program to begin with was not because I was an addict. I was dependent on something and feel Ive learned my lesson.
2. Am I screwed if I do get back on something like vicodine since they did run my insurance awhile ago?
After reading other posts im starting to think that ive been given the run around and being taken for my money. For the medication I was taking and the amount I was taking, there is NO way I should be on this, this long.
As much as I wanted to be "clean and normal", this pain is too much to handle. Im convinced that I can do this. Taking the amount subscribed to take the edge off is all I want now.. I just don't know how to go about doing that.. Or maybe this is a horrible idea? I don't know.. I need help...

hi, i had both of my babies on suboxone and i can honestly say that you cant ever really know how your baby is going to be able to handle it. my daughter was born march 23 2008 and i was taking 16 mg of suboxone in that pregnancy. when she was born she did not suffer severe withdrawal at all, in fact they only kept her 3 days just to make sure she wasnt going to go into severe withdrawal and then they released her. she never had to be weaned or medicated at all. and the highest her nas scores ever got was a 4 which is very low and her symptoms was only sneezing yawning and a slightly bit of fussiness but nothing we couldnt cuddle her through. now on the other hand, i just delivered my baby boy on september the 8 and i am just stunned by how badly he is suffering through withdrawal. he is in nationwide childrens hospital in the NICU and has been there since he was born and he just turned a month old yesterday. his nas scores have got as high as a 16. they are weaning him with methadone and it has been a yo yo of a time. now in my pregnancy with my son i was on a much higher dose of 24-36 mgs a day. this probably plays a big part in why he is having it so hard and the doctors said his body weight could be part of it since he was 8lbs and 4oz at birth and my daughter was only 7lbs and 1oz that he has more body weight to have stored the suboxone. they also said that they do not know why but that boys always seem to have worse problems with withdrawal than girls the docs noticed. so girls please remember that the higher dose you are on the more trouble your baby will probably have. i would highly reccomend that if you can make it on a low dose than do so because i regret not lowering myself from such the high dose that i was on in my sons pregnancy. i was not smart enough to stop and think about it or even read up on it. i just assumed that hey since my daughter did so well then my sons gonna be born on suboxone as she was and do just as well as she. no more than 8 mgs a day i reccomend if you want a better chance for a withdrawal free baby, but remember though every baby is different, the docs told me they have had women on 36 mgs a day have a baby and the baby be fine and they have had women be on 2 mgs a day and have a baby with withdrawals. atleast if you have your baby and it does suffer withdrawal and needs medicated or tapered just remember that atleast you were on the suboxone and not the street drugs and your baby didnt have to be exposed to the street drugs. either way if your on suboxone atleast your trying to change your life and your trying to do whats best for your baby, obviously no drug is GOOD for your baby but its better than the alternative
Open Question: I’m currently perscribed subutex. Does it decrease milk production in lactating moms?
October 9, 2009 By Leave a Comment
I'm on subutex. I've been pumping since the birth of my son but I haven't actually breast feed him yet. He's on formula. I'm noticing that I'm not producing as much milk as before. I know that subutex can decrease milk production but I was wondering if anyone else has breast feed successfully while on this medication. I'd like to breast feed my son. But I don't want to get him to the breast only to discover that I can't make enough milk to keep him fed. Has anyone else experienced this. There's not much info on it.

Resolved Question: Reducing opiate addiction (subutex/buprenorphine) rapidly?
October 5, 2009 By Leave a Comment
Hi, I have been using buprenorphine for one year now and I have decided to stop, I have reduced my dosage from 8mg per day to 0.3mg per day over one week and have now ran out.
I am feeling not as bad as I thought I would but have the typical 'rattling' signs such as constant stretching, yawning, nausea, violent sneezing, runny nose, watering eyes, hot and frosty sweats, lethargy, painful itching and general aches, however I am able to fight these symptoms by going about my daily duties.
I have been using 5mg of diazapam per day to combat the sleep issue and 30/500 co-codamol to act as some form of substitute to keep the stomach pains at bay.
I wish to know given the time I reduced, the length of my habit and my current replacement scheme, how long the withdrawal syndrome will last.
Awaiting reply, thanks in advance.
I'm afraid I wasn't using it for withdrawal, I was 7 weeks clean before I used it, sorry I didn't mention this.

I never used at all during my pregnancy. I had already been on 4 mgs a suboxone, a tiny amount. By the time my baby was born I was only on 2 mgs. I do not smoke, I do not drink coffee. My daughter had to be treated for withdrawal symptoms. It was the worse week of my life. I thought because I was on such a low dose she wouldn't have to be treated, but she did. Because of the half life of Subutex being so long >72 hours, it took four days before the intense withdrawals showed their face. She didn't have seizures, or convulsions, but she cried a lot, and couldn't settle easy, she had skin moddeling, and an increased moro reflex. If you want some information about how it will be when you go to the hospital (every place is different) look up the "Finnegan scoring system" because this is what they use to treat the babies. They come in and "score" your baby every three hours. They even wake them up. It really sucks, but you get through it. My daughter went on Phenabaritol and was off it in 5 weeks.
